The Promenade

'The Promenade' analysis was made for my final year PGT elective, 'The Designer in Place'. The initial inspiration for the project came after reading 'The Architectural Promenade', a book authored by Flora Samuel, which serves as a dissection of several of Le Corbusier's projects, and noting the trending phases that occur along the circulation throughout each building. This promenade has been likened to Ariadne's golden thread, leading the user through the building via an invisible string of intuition. My booklet was created as a comparative analysis of 3 buildings, all designed by prominent architects in Glasgow, using Le Corbusier's 'Promenade' as a tool for judging their arrangement, composition and programme. I demonstrate how these buildings follow the promenade, and where they diverge, and how that works to the benefit or detriment of the user.
